case studies

my projects

Beautiful spaces are the result of thoughtful planning, creative problem-solving, and careful attention to detail.  I've chosen to showcase these projects as case studies to share not just the finished results, but the design thinking behind them.  From identifying challenges and developing solutions.  This is the story of how a vision becomes reality.

The original plans presented opportunities to improve circulation, functionality, and the relationship between the interiors and surrounding lake views.

01/ Bear lake Residence

My approach

Working closely with the homeowners, I developed revisions to the primary suite, laundry/powder bath, and kitchen layouts, improving circulation, comfort, and functionality.  Throughout the home, I coordinated architectural finish selections, cabinetry details, fixtures, furnishings and materials to create a cohesive design.

The shower in the primary bath was cavernous and there was no access to the closet from the bathroom

A corner shower was unnecessary in the powder bath and the toilet room took away valuable square footage from the laundry

Shortening the toilet room and appropriately scaling the shower opened up space for access to the primary closet.

Since this was a vacation home a full size washer and dryer were needed.  Space was created by removing the shower and moving the toilet next to the vanity.

Transform an underutilized basement into a comfortable multifunctional space for a family of seven while creating architectural character appropriate to the home.

the challenge

My approach

Inspired by the proportions and craftsmanship of early American farmhouses, I developed a design incorporating natural stone, traditional wall paneling, and thoughtfully scaled architectural details.

The inspiration for the horizontal wall paneling came from an early 19th century farmhouse in Harmony, PA

A combination of CAD and photoshop gives a scaled and realistic idea to the basement  plan before construction begins

The room had a disproportionate fireplace and only served a couple of functions.  With over 1,000 sq/ft it had the potential to be a great  gathering space.

"As my wife and I set out to build a vacation home we knew we needed help communicating our vision.  Sarah took the time to thoroughly review the plans.  She even found several areas in our home that could be improved and worked with our builder to make the necessary changes.  She asked thoughtful questions about our family and how we would use each space.  Now our home is comfortable and great for family parties.  It turned out better than we had ever imagined!"
